Yes, Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez are the stars of the upcoming car-centric flick, Getaway, but in out minds, and in the minds of many of the people behind the film, this black on grey Shelby GT500 Super Snake Mustang is just as big of a star.
The Super Snake exists because Shelby didn’t think the 650 hp from the “regular” GT500 was enough, so it got pushed up to 850 horses. This thing will do a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds without leaving first gear. Of course, production is limited to 500 examples and it costs $39,995 more than the cost of a new GT500. It’s not for the feint of wallet. The star power is there.
Of course, every movie star has to undergo some preparation to appear in a film, and this car is no exception.
Every sinister looking movie car needs some black wheels, so this car was fitted with some matte black split five spokes.
In an action movie, cruise control and media buttons aren’t really necessary, but looking cool is, thus the normal steering wheel was replaced with this streamlined one.
The interior received a ton of upgrades. First up there’s the aforementioned guage cluster and numbered plaque, but there’s also the re-upholstered arm-rests, a custom hand-brake, an Alpine GPS/Media module, and that sweet billet shift knob.
Yes, that’s a silver plate with the car’s serial number from Shelby on it, and above that, an aftermarket guage cluster that can be remotely controlled with a series of thumbwheels.
Even the headrests got some custom embroidery and upholstery.
No keyhole on these streamlined door-handles
The badges on the back of the car were rearranged for the sake of the film. Condensing all of the “SHELBY” lettering onto the black stripe makes to read than on a regular Super Snake.
While the regular Super Snake is more streamlined, the Getaway car has been fitted with rear 3/4 window scoops and side scoops for a more aggressive look.
All that carefully applied pain was then carefully weathered. The effect, of course, is that the Super Snake looks more badass.
